Prada is the brand that started it all for me.
I was in high school and had a friend who carried a Prada Nylon messenger bag (not the norm, I know), which changed my life’s trajectory. Sounds cliche, but it’s true.
That was when I started immersing myself in designer bags and going to the high-end mall with my friends to study the wares I so coveted in person. It was also when a Prada Nylon bag made its way onto my high school graduation wishlist, and once I secured the bag, my life was forever altered.
Over twenty years later, Prada Nylon bags continue to speak to my bag-loving heart. The practicality of a bag you can use for all of time and nearly every occasion can’t be denied.
Prada has continued to challenge convention in its use of nylon across accessories and ready-to-wear. Since 2021, production of all Prada virgin nylon has been converted to regenerated nylon, a radical commitment to sustainability by a major luxury house.
Re-Edition 1978
With travel season upon us, a new crop of classic Prada Bags is reinvigorated for fellow Re-Nylon lovers like myself.
Enter this array of , each offering the timeless charm of an archival design from 1978, as the name suggests.
Prada Re-Nylon is both about pragmatism and innovation. The regenerated nylon represents a sustainable evolution and is one of the most defining materials of the brand.
As always, the assortment of bags is available in a wide variety of sizes. From a smaller, compact daily carry that holds your everyday items to a more oversized tote to store anything and everything.
Each is available in black Re-Nylon with Saffiano leather trim. The additional distinguishing feature is the enameled metal triangle logo with complimenting gold hardware on each black nylon design.
The Re-Nylon Bags
I’m kicking it off with the . This bag fits many functions, from a travel necessity to a more throw-over-your-shoulder-and-go vibe, and is available in Medium and Large sizes.
The Saffiano leather details accentuate the design well, and the interior offers ample space and two pockets. Included is a removable adjustable strap, allowing for a variety of ways to wear.
If you prefer a more classic tote shape, Prada has you covered.
My daily go-to for many years has been from Prada, from a work bag to a baby bag to my travel carry. The Re-Edition 1978 tote also offers an exterior pocket, which is a nice touch.
Arguably, one of the most beloved Prada shapes in the Re-Nylon family is the backpack, and is a favorite. Backpacks continue to rule the designer scene; after all, practicality is the main point of a bag.
The bag is roomy enough; functionality is key here, with interior pockets and the elegant leather key ring with the Prada Re-Edition 1978 emblem. The harness straps are adjustable and there is a woven top handle, along with a drawstring closure and flap and buckle closure.
There’s a Two Handle Bag and a Mini Shoulder bag to close out the offering, both fitting in the Re-Nylon family with their usability, functionality, durability, and easily recognizable branding that remains at the forefront.
Another positive aspect of these bags is that they can, in fact, be washed.
Prada recommends not washing too often to keep the product’s shape and finding an ecological dry cleaner to clean the bag. But the point remains: you can wash these bags, which is a significant plus for those of us who really use our bags.
The Clothing
The collection to pair with this is as simplistic yet fashion-forward and classically Prada as it comes.
A paired with a is both refined and statement-making. There are other combinations, including (I own one from years ago, and it still looks brand new), along with .
I love the additional options when it comes to accessorizing further within the Re-Nylon family: take this Re-Nylon Headband or this Re-Nylon Bucket Hat.
While timeless black and white is one of the most iconic and statement-making duos, many of these designs are also offered in other colorways.
You can not only elevate your closet with Prada Re-Nylon but also do some good. As of July 2023, Prada has committed 1% of proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon Collection to SEA BEYOND in a mission to strengthen the partnership between Prada Group and IOC/UNESCO.
